Fetrahomby

Fetrahomby is primarily a trekking destination, due to the large distance between the villages and the lack of means of transportation. Together with its stunning rainforests and laid-back hospitable communities you really get a once in a lifetime experience that cannot be found anywhere else on the planet.

Fetrahomby is a destination that can be visited for any purpose and field of interest as you like. Due to its remoteness we suggest you book your visit through Centre Lambahoany or a tour operator who offers tours to the region. It is not possible to visit Fetrahomby without prior arrangement, because all accommodation have to reserved in advanced and there is only capacity for 6 people at any one time.

Besides hiking, you can spend the day with the villagers, see how they live and help for a day in the rice field, for example. The area is also very attractrive for biologists and special interest tourists such as wildlife photographers. Whatever you want to make of your visit to Fetrahomby is up to you. We invite you to discuss you intentions with us. In all cases, we expect you to respect our policy regarding ecotourism in the Ankeniheny-Zahamena Corridor:

The policy regarding eco tourism in this CORRIDOR ANKENIHENY - ZAHAMENA can be summarised as:

  • Conservation of natural resources: to minimise the ecological damage; use of renewable energy (solar energy, modest housing made of local materials); aimed at adapting and adjusting to the environment.
  • Benefits for the local communities: the services are provided by local people: lodging, catering, and guiding; the villagers  benefit immediately whilst protecting the natural environment.
  • Respect for the local culture: appreciation of the culture with a modest attitude. Responsible tourism does not make demands on the local population, but listens to their ideas.
