Toamasina province can be reached by plane or taxi-brousse (minibus) from the capital, and by train or taxi-brousse from Moramanga, the town close to the National Parks Andasibe and Mantadia. Flights Air Madagascar has flights from and to Tamatave, the capital of the province, the island of St. Marie and Maroansetra. Public transport Taxi-brousses leave from the coach station in Antananarivo early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The coach station for Toamasina is located in the Ambodivona, is the northeast of Antananarivo. If you take the taxi-brousse early in the morning you can enjoy the landscape and some really stunning sights. If you go late in the afternoon you’ll arrive in Tamatave very early in the morning. The taxi-brousse station in Tamatave is a five minutes walk form Centre Lambahoany. You can hire a pousse-velo 1000 Ary (5000 FMg) to transport you and your luggage The train from Moramanga leaves a few times per week; it is a cargo train with some carriages for passengers. When you want to travel further north you can take a taxi-brousse, or the special bus that connects with the boat to St. Marie Island. If you travel south the taxi-brousse is an option, but you can also consider taking a boat down the Pangalanes Canal. |
